The 181 Merlot clone traces its origins to Pomerol in Bordeaux, where it is highly valued due to its suitability to the red clay soils of the region. Clay soil retains water well and stays cool longer in spring, thus delaying bud break, an ideal outcome for Merlot. The red soils of our Clay Station Vineyard in Lodi are similar to the red soils in Pomerol – the perfect environment for 181 Merlot to thrive and produce wines with concentrated flavors and supple tannins.

TASTING NOTE
181 is classic Bordeaux-style Merlot, elegantly opening with aromas of cherry, blackberry and sweet herbs. Fresh fruit flavors of black cherry and ripe plum fuse seamlessly with hints of spice leading to a lingering and luxurious finish. With balanced tannins and acidity, this medium-bodied wine is a perfect companion to oven-roasted turkey, Italian sausage, braised short ribs and mild to medium hard cheeses like Port Salut, Edam and Gouda.

The 337 Cabernet Sauvignon clone, born in Bordeaux, France, has a long history of prestige and quality associated with the region’s famous châteaux. Clone 337 produces small berry clusters that deliver concentrated red and black fruit flavors with soft, round tannins and no green characteristics typical of other Cabernet clones.

Now, 16 years after being planted by the Indelicato family in Lodi, it is clear that the 337 clone is perfectly at home thriving in the Bordeaux-like soil composition of Clay Station Vineyard, which is iron-rich, gravelly clay interlaced with granite and stone cobbles.

TASTING NOTE
The 2010 vintage exhibits appealing aromas of black cherry, ripe currant and lightly roasted coffee. Supple tannins and balanced acidity support core flavors of black cherry and blackberry intertwined with sweet herbs and accents of black pepper spice. Noble Vines 337 Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed on its own or with grilled tri tip, BBQ and blue cheeses.
